I got an 87 5.0.. And right now I have the stock cam w/ 1.72s (total valve lift .472) and stock ported heads. The heads have been freshend up a little over a year ago they had the spring heights checked, valves ground, new seals, guides in good shape, new keepers, milled, hot tanked, m-fluxed, etc.. I was wondering if the B303 cam and 1.72's would be too much lift for the stock valve train to handle? The B303 cam's lift is .480 w/1.6 RR's and it will be .516 w/1.72 RR's. Is .516 too much? I have heard of people running the E303 on the stock heads which has .498 lift.

I would suggest changing the springs if they are stock springs. Your probally getting valve float as is. I have double valve springs, no valve float at all to the rev limiter. I had my current setup with the stock cam and it did very well. I put in the B cam not too long ago, it really picked up after 4000rpms.

with the 1.7 rockers making the lift .512 you realy are looking for trouble running stock springs. It is only around $100 for the Crane spring kit that drops right in without any machining. I used that kit in my truck wich has a stock '87 mustang cam and 1.7 Cobra rockers and it took about 5 hours to install them and now it revs cleanly to 6,000+. Plus the stock springs looked like they were close to coil bind before I put the crane kit in, and that is with only .469 lift, adding another .043" lift is just asking for trouble.

Well I have a set of dual springs from a set of Windsor Jr. heads that are rated to .560 lift.. Would those springs work on my stock heads and valves? Also the reason I am not using the Windsor Jr. heads yet is because they need alot of work(new intake valves, guides, etc)..

Go ahead and get the Winsor Jr's rebuilt. I don't think the springs from it would work on E7's. It wouldn't cost that much to buy some new valves, retainers, seals, keepers, ect and have a machine shop take care of the rest.

I would like to but they are stud mount and my E7's are bolt down.. Would my bolt-down 1.7 RR's be able to even work on the Windsor Jr.s.. I would have to buy new rockers if they wont work. And if I did that I might as well just get 1.6s and use a bigger cam that would have more duration than the B303...Also I was quoted 350 dollars to have the Jr.s rebuilt by a near by shop..

That is what I would do. You could sell those 1.72's or maby even see if you could make a trade, this would take the sting out of your wallet. The B cam with 1.7's works nicley, that is what I run, but there are better cams out there from what I have been told. Does that $350 price labor only? Even if it is labor only that isn't a bad price.

It was 400 dollars for everything. But I paid 50 dollars for him to check the heads out and he said that if I had him do the work he would take that 50 out of the cost to fix the heads. So the 350 dollars is for everything. All new intake valves, all new intake valve guides, a couple exhaust guides, seals, 3 angle valve job, milling the heads, magna flux, and assembly.

use valve springs 44308-1 from crane. They are conical valves that are designed for OE ford heads that handle .560 working lift and bind at .620. they are a little stiff and hard to put in. i broke 2 overhead spring compressors till i bought a good one :bang: they easily handle 7000 rpm and no need to do any work to the head, they go right in.
