Help! Brake question

I am trying to replace the front pads on my 99 mustang. I am right now working on the lower bolt on the caliper as shown in the picture, but now matter how much I turn the bolt it just stays in place! I mean it turns, but it just won't come out! IS this normal? What am i doing wrong???? Thanks.

that metal piece behind the red part of the caliper has a flat edge put an adjustable wrench on it and then turn the screw.

i just went out and tried it, but I couldn't find any flat edge. the part that turns as i turn the bolt is round, and I can't grab it with a adj wrench or pliers. it just turns and turns.

You need to hold that somehow. If you ar not going to turn the rotors which I wouldn't suggest you can just tilt the calpier up and change the pads but I wouldn't change the brakes w/o turning the rotors. are those stock Calipers painted red or the bullit ones?

actually i got that picture from another site, i think those are stock calipers painted red. i just have the stock ones on.

i am probably gonna use a vice grip and latch on to it. my only concern is that i may damage the round piece and rubber part if i use to much pressure on it.

i think i may just cut out the rubber piece, so i could get a better grip on the round metal piece. it seems to be just there with no real purpose. will that affect anything? or should i leave the rubber part in place?
