I just bought an 84 gt that has had an 86 5.0 ho put in it minus the intake. The car has had an aod from the same 86 model installed also. The motor and tranny only have 38k on them. I have been told that hooking up the aod's detent cable or whatever it is can be a pain on a carb. I heard that if not hooked up right the tranny will burn up. I also need to know what is needed to put a carb setup on the motor. I know i will need an inline fuel pump. The car came with an old two barrel carb and intake to use. I may have to use this if money won't let me get a 4barrel setup. If anybody has completed this swap and has any helpful information to share it will be greatfully appreciated.

lets see..... for the distributor you will one out of an 85 gt car that is manual i think you might need the ignition control module too. distributor costs like 100 bucks from advance auto and the control module costs like 25. Youll need an intake and carb. If i were you i wouldn't get an inline fuel pump i would switch timing cover and and go with a mechanical fuel pump from an earlier model. As far as the tranmission i would go with a c-4. The c-4 came in the earlier fox body cars so it works pretty good. If you do get a c-4 you would need to shorten the driveshaft which is only probably like 20 bucks and you have to use a different crossmember using FRPP's C4 crossmember (p/n M-5059-A). you will then need a new flexplate using FRPP, p/n M-6375-E302 (157-tooth, 50-oz imbalance, for all 1981-up 5.0 V8's). that covers the big stuff

iirc when i swapped a c4 into my 84 it bolted right in with no driveshaft mods. only thing that was needed to mod was the crossmember which you just grind the tac-welds off the tubes so the center moves freely. no sense in buying a crossmember when you can do it next to nothing:D
. now a C6 behind a 302 does require driveshaft shortening. just my .02
