Hi guys. Need your expert advise. The front parking brake cable on my 96 GT broke and I can't get the broken piece out. I've attached the photos of the shredded cable.

Can anyone give any advise on how to take out the cylindrical fitting off the adjuster reel?? According to Chilton's if the cable had not snapped off, I could pull the parking brake equalizer rearward then insert a lockpin. But since, the cable has snapped off, how could I remove the fitting to install a new cable?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..

Parking Brake Cable Tension Release Printable View (54 KB)
CAUTION: If any component in the parking brake system requires repair or if the rear axle housing (4010) is removed, the cable tension must be released.

Place the parking brake control (2780) in the released position.
Remove the console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 .
With an assistant inside the vehicle, raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 .
Pull the parking brake cable and equalizer rearward.

CAUTION: Do not remove the steel pin until the parking brake cable and equalizer/rear cable and conduits are connected to the parking brake control. Pin removal releases the tension in the ratchet wheel causing the spring to unwind and release tension.

Insert a steel pin through holes in the lever to the ratchet wheel.

great info and illustration. I just have no idea how to unload the pressure off the adjuster reel since the cable has snapped. I tried to turn the reel simulating the movement if I were to pull the cable and equalizer, but it would not budge at all. If the cable was not all snapped, I believe it would be easier.
