I have been sanding and cleaning up the underside of the car with wire wheels, scrappers, etc. I just got to the rear wheel houses and after removing the 1/2 inch of undercoating (put there by the PO to cover up the major rust! :nonono: ) and I discovered that the bottom of the outer wheel apron was rusted through and the inside of the rocker rail is totally rusted out.

I stuck a screwdriver right through it from underneith. Crap!!!!!! :bang: How hard is it to replace the rail? Can I do anything for now to avoid the cost and time as a bandaid?

i wouldnt jsut bandaid it but thats jsut me. do what you need to do to get it fixed and in great shape and youll never have to worry about it again. Im sorry i cant help you with your problem as ive never done a huge amount of body work but i just wanted to chime in with my .02 cents.

Bandaids on bodywork is what got your car to the point it is now. You need to replace the bad metal with good. A rocker panel is not the easiest to replace, nor is a wheelhouse, but they can both be accomplished by the hobbyist if the right tools are procured and you get someone with some experience to help you. I have done both and you can achieve fantastic results with a little patience. If you have any good Mustang clubs in your area maybe you should join so you can meet lots of people with varying degrees of experience. You may be able to find someone to give you a hand.

:Yeah, I don't want to put a bandaid on it. Can someone give me some idea as to how I would proceed? I am not worried about an original look as I have had to make changes to an already questionable car. Function is what I want and maybe even improve on the original design? Anyone out there do this kind of fix that could give me a few pointers? Thanks
