I have an 85' that I can't get drivable. I'm not very good at troubleshooting so I'm having a hard time. Can someone help? The car is a jumble of different parts. The engine has a carb but is running the tfi distributor/ no ignition box or anything(idk). It will sit and idle all day but once I try to drive it begins to bog and stall. Today it made it about 1/8 mile then began to die. I drove in 2nd gear very slowly and rough almost back home before it died again. Would start then shut off immediatly. Towed home, let it sit then it started fine sat and idled perfectly. Any ideas?

Engine from what I was told has b303 cam, edelbrock performer carb/ rpm intake, longtube headers, t5 5 speed, bbk h-pipe, 3a racing mufflers, electric fuel pump, tfi dist, accel coil

The TFI distributor has no spark advance. That's one problem that will affect performance.

The problem seems to be that when the engine warms up it, it starts to run rough and die. Is this what you are seeing?

Seems like it happens when accelerating/ shifting to 3rd gear. Will sut and idle all day.

I've ordered an 85' distributor, now considering an ignition box. I've read that AMC used the duraspark II which people have suggested. I have an 81' Jeep with the 304, so maybe this would work?

I think that you are on the right track replacing the distributor.

There are some guys that have replaced the DuraSpark box with a GM HEI module. Google it and see what you come up with, it is much cheaper.
