help getting gear off VSS

can anyone help me get the damn gear off the VSS? Can't figure it out.

Isn't it just a C-clip? It's been a while since I've done one, but I don't remember it being attached in any sort of complicated way.

its just a c-clip as hairy stated, it is just under the gear, and then it will pull off of the little shaft
