help... having a surge demon problem...

My cars idle jumps between 600 and 1200rpm. Im running a C&L73mm MAF. When I unhook the MAF connector the car holds a solid 1200rpm idle and doesnt move. If I cut the idle any lower than 1200 the car will surge its way off. Any ideas if my MAF is bad or...? I dont have any codes or a check engine light with the MAF connected. Should I convert to a Univer blow-thru setup or will that solve any of my problems? Thanks,

Turn the MAF from 12:00 TO 3:00. Keep turning and you may ffind the sweet spot that doesn't surge.
