My car is dying on the freeway. It did it last friday took it to a shop told the man it seemed like a fuel problem, he checked the pressure and agreed and replaced the fuel pump and filter. Picked the car up today and halfway to my destination it did the same thing.
Now I had been driving 70 for about 2 hours. All of the sudden my car would no accelerate. When I pushed in the pedal it would shudder and drastically slow down. If only holding the pedal just barely in it would go but still not getting up to interstate speed. Push the clutch in and it just cut off. Well taking into account what the mechanic had told me about trying to keep a lot of gas in the tank because it would help cool the fuel pump more, I sat on the side of the interstate for about 15 minutes let it cool off. I got back in and it started just fine and I accelerated fine and drove 2 miles to the next exit got off and filled the tank. I drove the next 30 miles with no problem at all and got home fine.
It only seems like the engine gives up after it has been running for a while because when it did it (fri) the first time I was on my way home and had been driving for about 3 hours.
Could it be the injectors?
Someone mentioned bad egr valve??
I'm not exactly sure what is going on I'm going to call the mechanic tomorrow morning and try and figure it out.
Anyone here have any ideas?
It's a 1995 3.8 manual with 109K.
Thank you in advance,
Jon
