[NOTE: I'm just bringing back this post because it was lost in the crash, need more input]

I'm trying to do the tranny swap and I can't get the damn AOD-E down.

I removed the following, hopefully this is all that needs to be removed...

6 bellhousing to engine block bolts
2 crossmember to tranny bolts
2 crossmember to frame bolts
crossmember is off
all harnesses disconnected
shift linkage disconnected
4 flywheel to converter bolts are off
driveshaft is off
starter is off

what the hell am I missing? The AOD-E looks like it came out just a tiny bit, maybe a half inch. How much does it have to slide out? We tried wiggling it, pushing it, prying it, and lowering it, and it still won't come out.

Anyone have any ideas?

Keep wigglin it, hope you have a helper cause it can be kinda difficult to remove in the position your probable in, sounds like you have everything disconnected.

also make sure you guys are pulling the tranny straight out and its not bending on an angle., I just had it jacked up on a jack, wiggle, move jack back, wiggle some more, keep wigglin and pullin.

I would look around the hole where the shifter is located, may be binding up as you try to bring it back. does look like everything is disconnected, should just come off. do you have a jack supporting the AODE, if not try that, pump it up a little to take the weight off, then try sliding back. good luck

sounds like it might just be at too much of an angle and its binding up making it hard to remove

Well I thought it moved out, but I just looked under the car and the bellhousing is still right against the engine block. So the tranny hasn't budged at all after wiggling, shaking, prying, and hammering. I have a 3 ton jack under it and when we were trying to remove it, it was pretty level, and we tried lowering it a bit too, and all it does is lower the engine with it. It's about a 1/2 inch from the shifter area so I don't think it's binding either. I'm starting to think I missed a bolt somewhere but I triple checked and there are no bolts left.

When we were removing the driveshaft, it had been fused by rust to the pinion. We couldn't get it to budge at all until PB blaster set in for a day. I'm starting to think that maybe the same thing is going on here?

I'm thinkin the screws on the converter are binding on the flywheel, I'm going to try to hit them with a hammer.

The dowell pins are probably holding it. I would try driving something between the block and trans where the dowell pins are. Do both sides a little at a time to keep it from binding.

Yeah the dowel pins were holding it I think. What we did was put a van bottle jack inbetween the k-member and the tranny and we jacked it and it pushed it out. Now it's out with the old and in with the new!
