HI, I JUST PUT MY CAR ON THE ROAD YESTERDAY. I WENT DRIVING AROUND AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS NO 3RD GEAR. MY MECHANIC JUST LEFT FOR VACATION AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. ITS A C4 COMPETITION TRANNY. I HAVE A TURBO ACTION SCS CHEETAH SHIFTER ON IT. IS IT THE CABLE WAS SET WRONG? HOW CAN I FIX THIS? ANYHELP IS APPRECIATED. THANKS

I just lost 3rd gear too...then 2nd started going. The clutches in 3rd are usualy the first to go. If you wanna check your shift linkage you can just pull the shifter boot off and make sure eveything is secure with the cable. When I put my shifter on I forgot to tighten the shift linkage all the way and it wouldent go into certian gears. Chances are its not your shift linkage though.

2 things to check is the cable adjustment and the kickdown lever.

Make sure the kickdown lever is not strapped wide down. If it is, then the car would not go into 3rd gear until high RPM. The kickdown lever is the other lever that is behind the shifter lever on the side ot the tranny.

To adjust the cable, manually put the tranny in first (for a normal valvebody, 3rd for a reverse). The adjust the cable so that it is not in a bind. Should talk longer to jack the car than to adjust the cable. Please use jackstands so you can reply that you fixed it!
