I've got a 66 coupe that was more of a car shaped rust pile than an actual car, but the motor and the transmission (auto) were good. Since I don't know how to do body work, I found another 66 without a motor and a good body. Now to take the motor out of one and put it into the other.

Three days and several broken bolts later, I've got the motor and transmission out. I removed the four bolts holding th tranny onto the engine and . . . They are still together. It's like the transmission is still engaged to the motor.

Any idea on how to get these two apart would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say, this is my first attempt at a restoration and rebuild, so please be very deacriptive in how to go about this because I just don't have the working vocabulary of a seasoned enthusiast when it comes to this.

Thanks again!

You took four bolts out of the bell housing to the back of the engine block? Did you remove the starter? You will need to as it will hold them together as well. You should also unbolt the torque converter as described above but it will slip out of the transmission and remain bolted to the flex plate. The inspection cover described above will need to be removed as well as it is bolted to the bell housing and the rest of that thin metal plate will stay on the engine until the flex plate can be removed after the transmission is removed.

Yep. I don't know how many times I took out all the bolts, and then could not get the engine and tranny apart only to discover I had not taken out all the bolts.

Get this and it will become a great help and your new best friend....
