noticed today when i was swapping the new spark plugs today that the runners on my new intake manifold looked funny..then i noticed cutouts in between the runners that i could see the valley of the motor through.. thought it was odd so i took some pics...i think my installer effed up and got me an NPI intake mani...please tell me im wrong...but the car also feels like its lacking on power also.. not the best pics but here they are

i googled pics of NPI intakes and found this one on a crown vic forum and it looks identical to mine

please tell me im wrong...please? would an NPI intake mani even bolt up to PI heads without some kind of kit?

I doubt it is an NPI. The water jackets are different. That is why you have to seal the PI intake on NPI heads when swapping. The only way I could think of, was if they used NPI gaskets. Even then, I don't think it would work. I might be wrong, though. Hope the motor is ok.

i just found out by doing more googling its the dorman PI intake manifold which as you can tell by the smaller runners is a crappy smaller version of the ford intake mani meaning reduced flow and i might as well have a NPI on there

Ditch the Dorman, the one 98cobra281 has was mine, it sucked, the car woke up 10 million times more with the swap to a ford pi intake, dorman's are worthless...

When exactly did you notice the lack power before or after you notice the intake? I use the Dorman, it actually felt better. The walls of the Dorman are just thinner, e.g. the skeletonized intake. Them stocks were heavy, even w/o the metal crossover. I think its in your brain. The only way to tell for sure is to dyno or :Track:, sorry for your heartache.

I say you keep the one you have. Its a sturdy intake. I mean if you are gonna start taking things apart you might as well start preparing for a Centri-charger. Go w/a well known brand of intakes that are metal. Victor jr. was the one I was gonna go w/but, F/I is too far away for me right now.

Thats a doorman, get it off and get a ford PI..

A few years back a guy at MD back to back dynoed his car and gained 12 HP swapping back to the factory intake

Yes, they do crack. You can still find used ones with the aluminum crossover.

so as long as it has an aluminum crossover then a used one would still be good to use
