Ok, here was my original problem:

http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=710603

Here's an update:
I've tried swapping the coil, wires, distributor cap, rotor, distributor, and ignition module. All have failed at solving the problem. My last attempt was the distributor due to the notorious PIP sensor, but no cigar.

Here's where I get confused:
I replaced the distributor and put the new one in to essentially the exact same position as the original. The car wouldn't start. There was no spark. After a few minutes of head scratching, I removed the SPOUT connector and it fired right up. Plugged the SPOUT connector back in, while running, shut the car off and restarted, no problem. Took the car for a spin, died a mile down the road like before. Took the SPOUT out again, fired right up and drove home without it in, running like crap. What's going on here? Please help.

Thanks

No.

Send me your email address and I will send you two PDF articles by Wells, the folks that make TFI & PIP assemblies that describe your problem.

Just to let you guys know, it ended up being the PIP sensor. The one in the new distributor was bad. I talked to the guy at Autozone and he said they don't even replace those when they rebuild them. Anyway just thought I should post some results. Thanks for all the help guys.

You're right - if the PIP bench tests ok, they often leave it.

A hint to see if a reman'd dizzy has a new PIP is to look for an unused roll pin hole. They often wont bother to line the old holes up and just punch a new one.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. And nice work by JR to diagnose it, no muss no fuss.
