HELP!!! Knocking Only at Start Up

When I start the car there is a couple of knocks as the it tries to die. I give it one tiny pump of gas, and then it stops and idles perfect at 800? WHats the cuz of this knock, Detonation? Only at start up. Once I had a rocker arm come all the way loose. This sounds the exact same. Obviously, not the same problem. Any help would be great. This is about the last little hitch I foresee with this car! - Sounds like someone thumped the top of a coffee can.

Do you have a real oil pressure gauge?

That would help.

This way you know how long the oil is taking to get into the motor. (and how good your motor really is)

Hmm, I've had a problem with Fram, even though everyone hates them. Never heard of them causing an issue like this. Anyway, does it sound like a ding sound hitting the Valve cover? If so, I'd pull them and check for loose rockers.

No ive checked them already. They isnt supposed to be oil in my upper intake correct? The sound is more of a thwoomp thrwoomp. Ive go the manifild off right now(upper) and am replaciong the pcv valve and hose. I dont think there is supposed to be oil in my upper intake....

If it sounds like rod knock or dry start when you crank it and you have a Fram, the cheapest thing you can try right now is a Motorcraft FL1A Filter and see if that changes anything.

Hey Jerry you running a edelbrock performer intake. If so you will get tons of oil sucked through it. Mine does that badly. My other motor did the same as yours is kind of "knocking at startup" needless to say I have a new motor in the car now. Lost oil pressure and spun a bearing at the track. Maybe what you are experiancing is differant but it sounds like the same problem I had.

Yes i have the ebrock performer. The motor never leaked oil untill now. Just started today comming from the rear. I can see it on the ottom of the transmission. wtf. I had no idea an oil filter had anything to do with it. I will try and change...I know this is one of the stupidest questions out there... but the stock guage in the top right. Is that oil temp or pressure? How do i know if im losing oil pressure. I just bought this car with this blokc in it and I dont have the puller to pull the block so mine sits. What should I do? Also I heard somewhere to put magnets on the oil filter to trap and loose fowing debris if there is any in the motor I am doing this now. Any affect acciociated with my problem?
