Hello Ladies and Gents,

I'm usually on the Classic forum but since I'm just about done with my '68 project I'm ready to dig into my 88 GT convertible. It's got a TracLoc rearend with whatever gears were standard (anyone know?). I don't have any experience with the EFI stuff so I'm looking for advice.

I want to have a good strong driver with the most Torque and HP for the buck. It's a street car and won't see any track duty. I won't be doing any launches at 3K RPM.
BUT - I DO want to run with Camaro SS's and 2005 + GTs. I don't want to buy new heads either.

Soooo, does anyone out there have a proven combo that meets this criteria?

I'm specifically looking for
(1) a good cam/intake combo,
(2) any head modifications that I can make to the stock heads, and
(3) any other way to get good streetable performance

EDIT: (4) Or should I buy some whizzbang computer or electronics?

Should I spend my money on forged pistons and go NOS?

I've got about 1K to spend on parts...help me make the most if it!

Thanks in advance :nice:

with your budget i would definetly hit up ebay. id go with a 3.73 gear, edelbrock intake, exhaust, port the heads (do a search for tmoss or thumper460) and nitrous. a thousand bucks is gonna be tough to build a motor that will hang with the SS but it can definetly be done. just do your research and make sure the combo is perfect. just wondering, why arent you gonna get heads? even a set of gt40p from a junkyard will be better than the stockers.

Let me tell you a way to have a great driver, that gets decent mileage, and works well for daily driving...

-E7s (Send them out, and have good valves dropped in, and a valve job, new springs)
-1.7 rockers
-Cobra intake, 65mm TB, 75 MAF, K&N filter
-Stock cam, if you want more RPM retard it a few degrees.
-Full 2.5" exhaust
-3.73s

Although this costs more than $1000, it would be one hell of a street car. I have basically the same set up, and with really nothing more, have been mid 12s on slicks, and high 12s, low 13s on 17" radials.

The first stuff to do, would be gears, bolt ons (Intake, TB, MAF, rockers, exhaust), and it creates a nice base. Then as money allows get the head work, and your good to go!

I guess I was thinking that it would cost me $1,200 for heads - I hadn't considered the junkyard route. What car(s) or truck(s) came with the GT40p heads so I can scour the junk yards?

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly are E7's?
