My tires are shot, I currently have 2002 Cobra Rims. They are 17X8
I love them.

I want to get 255'45'17 up front and 275'40'17 on the back.

Since my car is a convertible the taller the better so I can get a better ride quality. What do you guys have, what do you recomend ?

Thanks!!

My Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires stick real well. Beat the crap out of any Goodsmears that I have ever driven. I have 255/45 17 all the way round.

BTW, will 275s fit on your 8 inch wheels?

The back ones would be shorter than the fronts with that setup. I'm now running 255/45 Hankooks all around and it definitely rides very nicely now. I like them much better than the Kumhos I had before.

remember that if you don't put same size alll the way around, after about 6 thou miles you may experience front end tire noise that you won'y be able to rotate out..and 8 inch rims are not to wide so you may want to go 9 or 10s..i have 10.5s and have some rubbing up front on sharp turns, but it is worh it..

I would do what you suggested, except the fronts be 40's NOT 45's. The 275's will fit with some sulging on the 8" rim, but when I put my Nitto's on, it seemed more like a slightly better fit. The guys say the Nitto's run smaller, but to me, a 275 is a 275..

can 255 fit on the stock 16 in 1995 gt wheel??? or is 245 the max???

Yes, you can put a 255/50-16 on the stock waffle rims. Not sure what kind of backspacing they have, so the bulge may cause some clearance issues up front but I doubt it.

it is tough, wider rims, bigger tires, better looks, all comes down to money..do what you can and buy the best tire you can afford..they are your direct link to the road, one of the most important [if not] investments to the car

i've got some cheap 225/55R17's on my 2001 Mustang GT special edition wheels. They're futura touring i think, rated at 80,000 mile tires. They wont hook up for anything, but you can roast them all day, and not tell that you've lost any tread. :D

I've got some 245/45/17 Sumitomo HTR+ all around and they're decent, but seem to wear kinda funny (yes, I regularly check the air pressure).

When I go to the SVT Cobra R's in the spring, I'm planning on going with the 275/40/17 Kumho Ecsta MX's. They're a real sticky tire for a good price and (not that it's important) they've got a better looking tread-block than alot of the other performance tires.
