Help me derice my car!

yaeh u take the heavier grit to get the paint off when ur down to the plastic itself when u go to the very very very fine grits and wet sand it it will actually make the surface very very smooth and hopefully add a gloss to it. thats what i would do IMO.

Hmmm... That is interesting. I have never seen that. Does anyone know what kind of plastic it is and what the chemistry is behind this?
Thinner and Reducer are both solvents and solvents eat certain types of plastic. You may have A) in the past used a weaker solvent and hadn't had it in contact with the plastic for very long to cause any noticeable damage, or B) worked with a type of high-density polyethylene (#2 recyclable) or other vinyl based plastics that may have been resistant to the solvent. But rest assured, rubbing it onto a soft type #3-7 non recyclable type, like that used to construct most automotive parts (usually #3) will discolor and/or begging to break it down in a matter of seconds.

Not all plastics are created equal….

Different Grades (types) are used for different purposes

Type 2 – HDPE (high-density polyethylene) recyclable bottles, (ex those used for storing Bleach, household cleaners, solvents, etc)
Type 3 – PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) plastics <----------- the bezel is likely made from some variation of this and is most susceptible to break down.
Type 4 - grocery bags
Type 1 and 5 – PET (Polyethylene) soda bottle tops, polyester clothing, rugs, etc
Type 6 - Plastic utensils
Type 7 – Styrofoam and polystyrene, other

How’s that for your Chemical breakdown? :D

GB101... How- Why do you know that?^^^
Because I’m a certifiable genius,
Because I know and see all,
Because I’m an expert in all things plastic,
Because of the high standard of the Canadian Educational system and…..

…..because I did a search and looked it up right after he asked the question. :D

My interior matches what you were looking for I think. Charcoal and grey. Click sig. I can post some more if need be.

my .02. either pull and repaint your stuff. I would not do this as I am too lazy and have more money that time.

buy new stuff rom ford. proably looking at $250-$300.

Or look on ebay for some parts. for example I have a ac vent/ stereo section sitting in my garage right now that I put a scratch in and was to lazy to repaint I will proably throw on ebay for like $25. slightly used pieces would look better than that and cost you as much as the materials to redo it.

now that is rice. that glow in the dark?

I'm cheap. i'd check on that guy wanting to trade ya. or get new/junkyard pieces and sell that crap on ebay. painting that stuff is time consuming and expensive. if you want it to match the 'ford' color 100% you'd have to buy paint from the dealership at 14 bucks a can. probably take 2-3 cans too...
