so i bought a gtech today and did a couple runs... i have to say im pretty impressed with the stang, if im lucky i think i can hang with civic dx's...

0-60 in 7.9 1/4 in 15.7 @91.9 mph

So here's my problems... it would appear as tho i can't launch worth ****.

I had been driving around at about 35mph-40mph for maybe 20 minutes.
The cars an auto(stock with a K&N drop in 40,000miles on the odometer), i just floored it to launch, the tires squawked (not squeeled) and bogged the engine... (TCS and overdrive were both off). The next run i warmed the tires up and launched the same way. Should i launch by doing a brake torque, as i have been told by a friend?

after 2 runs the tranny was hot (heat coming through console) and gear whine was apparent so i drove it home sadly... help me out before i lose to a tempo.

Well since it is an auto the best mods to improve launch would be gears, predator, and upgraded UCA/LCA. If you still have any money left then torque converter...

After you get your transmission problems fixed I suggest maybe a good set of tires. Drag Radials would be ideal for your situation. All the power doesn't mean anything if you can't get it to the ground.

The flush does not change filter or get rid of the accumulated residue in the pan.

Do an actual fluid and filter change. Get a Haynes manual and you can easily do this yourself.

It is always best to start with the cheap/easy stuff first. If the fluid and filter change does not fix it then, unfortunately, it will be time to take it to a transmission shop. You should not be able to feel the heat, the fluid should not be brown...

15.7? im sorry. i feel really bad for you. the stock 96 auto of mine ran a 15.5. that was 60 thousand mile EVERYTHING, plugs, wires, cats, nothing at all done to the car execpt for it being driven.

ive learned with a auto, that a "break tourque" actually kinda hurts it also. it dose cause exsivive heat, and will make the tranny sluggish. as for your fluid being brown, yeah id change it. i guess the ford dealors have a new thing called a tranny something, but they said it was better then a flush. the guy at my dealorship said that it "renews" the trans. he told me that if the trannie wasnt slipping, or shifting harder then usual, that they would give it a 3 year or 36 thousand mile warranty.

i got my trans really hot one night, and burnt brand new fluid. ever since ive been having a slight over heating problem, even after i flushed the trans. my shiftin wasnt hurt or nothing, and actually it shifts a little softer now. i put some synthetic crap in it. it'll still grab second tho.

also.... i would not trust the g tech. we've screwed around with one in a few different cars at the track. they always give way off readings.

and launching a auto is hard. obviously if its slow, just floor it. but when you get some gears, and just street tires and no nothing else, traction controll might help you out a little. but for not useing traction controll, you really gotta try to just roll into it as fast as possiable. ive found if i take off about 1/4 throttle, and after it "chirps", then i go 3/4, and it'll chirp again, then floor it. that works preety good. good enough to hang with lt1's off the line and down the road.
my car that i know of has a tune, x pipe, and 4.10's with uca/lca's.
still think theres more in her then just those mods tho. i bought it and was havin preety good luck with it.

Ok how about this, when i drive it through the gears (first to second to drive)... why does it litterally take 3 seconds to shift once i put it in second and another 3 once i put it in drive... i did it assuming i could keep it floored and it would shift, i was inccorect and it bounced off redline so i quickly let off. then a second later it finally shifted.

i would stick it in 3 and go, since 4 is an overdrive.

that's something you have to train yourself, when the tranny shifts. try shifting at 4500rpms and keep the gas in.

Whatever you do...just do NOT let off the gas while switching gears with an automatic. That will ***** your tranny up so fast it's not even funny.

Damned i thought buying an auto would eleviate the problems of needing new clutches etc... godamned maybe i can sell it to someone, take a loss of a grand, and buy a T/A or camaro... (even tho this car has put me 16,000 in debt, and i can't afford a transmission or a flush for that matter)
