Hey guys, oil pressure went completely out on the motor. Trying to get together a list of things to check for when taking it apart to find the culprit. I have never had a problem like this so im kinda in the dark on what all can cause it.....any help?

First thing I would check is the oil pump drive on the distributor.

Wait now, are you just showing no oil pressure on the stock gauge or an aftermarket unit? Is the engine making incredibly horrible sounds? If the former, start with getting a new sending unit, ~$5. If the latter, might be time for a new pump, which really sucks.

Something blocking the screen on the pick up will cause a pressure issue.

No ungodly sounds, im not running the motor. Pressure is non-existant....i took out the dizzy and through the drill in and primed it, even took off the oil senders. ZERO oil is coming out.....maybe a droplet every 5-10 seconds......

Are you saying this is a fresh rebuild with a new oil pump? If so, I had this happen to me with a new Melling pump. I exchanged it for another one and the second one worked fine.

Not a fresh rebuild, just a explorer motor with a new pump, cam, lifters, etc.....

So you had pressure for a while then lost it? Or never had it?

My stock gauge was reading on the M in NORMAL but I had lifter tap. I then hooked up the gauge off my Chevelle and it only showed 5psi. If this is a new explorer short block, such as the ones you can buy from Summit Racing check the oil galley plugs. That is what my motor is and it didn't have the plugs in it when I got it.

They are on the front of the block behind the timing cover. Mine was missing two so I went to the local machine shop and he gave them to me for a $1.00. I don't have any pictures but I can take some of my original shortblock if you need them. Just let me know.
