Help me pick my next carry gun.

I'll be looking for this Sig at the show. My best friend raves about the P220 and P220 Elite (white). I've never owned a Sig, in fact haven't even shot one.

The 220 is fun. For .45, I would have an HK, and which my next pistol will be. I have a 229 in .40 and I like it just fine.

I've got a Kimber TLE II that I carry when I can. But I can only get away with carrying it when I have layers on. Amazing handgun but not ideal for concealed carry. At least for a short guy like me. And yeah search gunbroker and AR15.com classifieds for a used Kimber. I picked mine up for $700 a few years ago.

I am going to buy a Glock 30 for a better conceal carry option. Compact and holds 10 rounds of .45 ACP :)

I carry a G30. No complaints.

I've never dropped mine but I've thrown it and used it to hit things. I used it last week to hang some pictures on the wall.

Scratches add character.

Was watching "Burn Notice" last night and noticed they like the Heckler & Koch stuff. Saw my gun a bunch of times during the show.

Haha, I noticed that as well. Jack Bauer also carried one for a few seasons. Then went over to a Sig (can't remember which).

Don't buy a carry gun that you're too worried about using. Get a decent holster with decent retention and it won't fall out. If you're too worried about it getting a blemish on it, you will be too worried about using it.

I forgot to reply to you earlier. I'll definitely take you up on that offer. I was over at PDHSC last weekend asking them about their CC classes. I'll be 21 in just over two weeks, and I'll definitely be up for going to shoot sometime right after Thanksgiving. I still need to find someone local with a HK USPc that I can shoot. Naturally, PDHSC doesn't have any of those to loan out.

They're the same price range

ya but with the springer you get night sights for about the same price. It all depends on what i get can get for what price i guess. There's no doubt that both companies are superb pistol manufactures but the kimber has the "name" associated with it. the basic models are (like you said) in the same price range but outside of that the kimbers get expensive fast.

I guess with about ANY 1911 model I've yet to hear someone NOT having issues with stovpiping and FTF's and FTE's within the first few hundred rounds. So with that in consideration all it really comes down to is a matter of Customer service. My local gunsmith has dealt with Springer before and has NEVER once had a bad experience vs I've heard hit and miss with kimbers.

The show is this Saturday November 12th. I'm still even more confused on which gun to get. I've got a few I'm going to look at. The Walther's are still in the lead. I'm thinking the PK-380 would be perfect. I'll snap some pics at the show. I may not make a decision right there, who knows.

i hear a lot off ppl saying oh i don't wanna pack my 1911 i may drop it or scratch it....i bought a kimber 1911 a little over 2 years ago, i no longer carry it daily but i wouldn't care one bit to do so..it has scratches i have dropped it and i have had it on my side while riding ATV's and playing in the mudd.....to me a gun that im afraid of carrying is a gun i do not need...1911's are heavy chunks of steel i promise a couple scratches won't affect it's firing ability.

I've got a few guns that I would feel that way about. Some I did buy just to collect. Now, I have taken them to the range and put some rounds in them, not that concerned about preserving them, but don't want to beat them up. My other guns are just a tool. Either way, I can think of worse ways to spend my money.

Just remember the saying "the perfect carry gun is the gun that you'll carry" I'm 6'2" and wouldn't carry a full size anything, be it 1911, a plastic pistol, etc... Good luck in your search :nice:

I'm a big guy too but I didn't like carrying my 1911 or my H&K USP Compact .45. The 1911 because it was way too heavy and the H&K because it's way too expensive to carry around.

My son's first soccer game is Saturday so now I'm not sure if I can even go to the show. I guess we may go on Sunday now. Still up in the air.

I'm tired of carrying my Sigma (see drawer picture). It's a full size .40 cal with 14 rounds and two magazine. It can be bulky too. Although it's cheap to carry at $250. I need something between the size of this gun and Ruger LCP (picture on page 1). I think the Walther PK380 fits the bill and with a .38 the recoil won't be so bad. I think this in 9MM will have too much recoil. I'm thinking of renting them at the range before I buy.

.380, not .38 :nonono: Just as there's only one 5.0 (pushrod 302 Ford) even though GM made a 302 also and the new Coyote is also 5 liters and labeled as a 5.0, the .38 tag is for .38 Spl. .380 is for .380 ACP like the Walther, LCP, and every other compact auto loader shoots. There are no auto loaders made that shoot the .38 Spl round.

Thanks for the lesson, I think you knew what I mean. I've been around here a little while.:D

I put my first "idiot scratch" on mine the first time I cleaned it and scratched it putting the slide stop back in :D Now I'm not nearly as anal about it.

Sorry I’m late to the party.

I’m going to ask: why would you not consider a Glock? I mean, if there’s a good reason, cool. If not, you’re probably ruling out your best choice.

I carry a G20 or a G27 daily. That being said, I’ll throw in that Tennessee is NOT a concealed carry state. They are a CARRY state i.e. I can put my G20 on my hip and go to the store.

Lisa has a PT-145, and it’s a jewel. We have a few thousand rounds through it, and, AS LONG AS I KEEP THE PINS IN THE FRAME, it shoots fine. 

I wouldn’t even consider a 1911 for multiple reasons. They’re heavy, carry fewer rounds than other comparable weapons, and they require too much skill to trust yourself with. The way I look at it is this: when you have to start justifying the shortcomings of a weapon OR you have to start explaining that the shortcomings aren’t REALLY a shortcoming . . . really then you need to pick a new tool you can trust your life with. There’s really nothing about a Glock you have to justify or defend (other than looks). Pretty much, it’s perfect IF it fits your hand okay . . . and I hear the new ones address that issue well. Same thing goes for Lisa’s PT-145. There isn’t ANYTHING about the gun I have to justify.

On my 1911 (and I have an UBER-NICE Wilson that I adore), I have to justify weight, only 9 rounds, single action, and carrying c&l . . . or not. Oh, it shoots WONDERFULLY, and it feels like sin, BUT when I compare the time I have to carry and take care of it with the times I actually have had to shoot someone, it’s not worth the trouble . . . especially when I don’t HAVE to go through that trouble.

My suggestion is that you go to a range and shoot everything they have. Pick the one you like to practice with and, more importantly, will live comfortably with you. A gun should live around you. You shouldn’t have to live around your carry piece.

As for price, WHO CARES? You’ve already decided that your life is worth protecting enough to the point to where you not only are going to carry a firearm, BUT you’re going to be carrying this firearm around in public around women and children (AND ME!) with the intention of shooting someone to save the life of you or another person . . . and if you screw up, you can be sued for thousands and thousands and thousands . . . and you worry about whether your gun costs $300 or $700. MEH! I’ve had to grab a gun when I thought my son and I were in danger, and honestly, suddenly paying extra for the Glock . . . with the night sights . . . and the extended grip . . . oh, and the great ammo . . . AH, AND THE COOL MATCH BARREL . . . was bloody brilliant. That extra $200 or $300 was nothing.

Just my thoughts.

The dollar amount is just a mind game for me. I can shoot my Sigma worth $250 just as well than my $1000 H&K. It has nothing to do with which one will save my life or my wife's we can shoot them both the same. I don't like the barrel angle of any Glock, I don't like the trigger, I don't like the rat tail at the bottom of the slide, neither has been comfortable in my hand, I don't like how thick and boxy they are which is why I won't purchase one. It's all about preference, if you like it great, I'm not a fan. Just as I'm not a fan of the PT-145 trigger. I like Taurus but that trigger is not for me. You'll either love it or hate that trigger and I can honestly say I hate it. I own lots of guns, I go shooting a few times a month, I've shot a ton of guns. The ones I posted on page 1 are what I'm coming down to as my front runners that I've shot, liked and could possibly own.
