I posted this in another thread, but didn't get any replies. I would really like to get more power out of my car. I'm getting a new 302 put in it. What would I need to do to get about 350-400hp out of my motor? So far I've only gotten a 625 cfm Road Demon carb and a Edelbrock performer intake. I know that the gt-40 heads are supposed to add 65hp, but how much would a good set of AFR 165's or something like that add? What cam would be good?
Thanks

the performer isn't much of an intake, and is holding you back abit. A midrange cam like the comp 270H, aftermarket aluminum heads (the GT40s kinda suck, but ported they might work... AFRs are a bit pricey, and probably unnecessary... look for performer RPM or Trick flow twisted wedge heads used off ebay), a matching intake such as performer rpm or weiand stealth. Then get some headers and a nice 2.5" exhaust and the mufflers of your choice and you should be set. Your carb is fine, btw.

I wholeheartedly concur with Sadbut.

I suspect you didn't get any replies because this topic has been posted here hundreds of times over the years.

The concensus is that the engine is a big air pump. More air through it = more power. I vote putting the most money into the heads as they are the weakest link in the chain.

the performer intake is only bad above 5k rpms
its actually really good for below those rpm's - but your not gonna make the kind of horsepower you want in low rpms, so you should probably get a different intake (weiand stealth is very popular)

afr's and trick flows are the best heads from what i hear
if your gonna buy a cam (which is very necessary) i would suggest something with about 220 degrees of duration @ .050 lift for decent street manners and good power

headers and dual exhaust and you should be in good shape

everybody is going to have differing opinions, but the smartest thing to do is to call the manufacturers of said products and get their professional opinion

Hmm, I'm kinda bummed about my intake becaue I just got it. I wish I knew about that before I bought it.

Would the Trick Flow Twisted wedge heads be good? What comp cam would be the best?

yeah, your rearend, tranny, and suspension will likely need upgrades, as are your traction capabilities. will cost at least as much as upgrading the engine.

Thanks allcarfan, I'm guessing those combos shouldn't decrease too much with a 625 road demon instead of the 650 speed demon. I'm probably going to go for something like your 400hp combo.
