Help! My Procharger system is way to rich?

My Procharger install is being delayed because the installers say that chip is too rich so i have to wait until ATI send me another one. Now they are currently using the factory Mass Air meter with 42 lb injectors, even though the chip is suppose to be calibrated to make them work together dont i really need like a Lightning(90mm) Mass Air meter. Or is the chip just programmed wrong from ATI.

:bang:

I don't think the stock MAF will work you will need either a 80mm MAF or the 90mm LMAF or you can try one of the PRO-M universals might work.

Can the shop you have it as burn chips it will be better to have your car dyno tuned instead of getting mail order chip. Mail order chips have a tune setup generally for the application it does not mean it's exactley correct or even a near a safe tune specifically for your car.

I'd check with CobraKiller (Tim Barth) over a www.modularfordpowerhouse.com

Initially i had planned to let Livernois Motorsport do the install and tune. They can do everything there but i was so anxious to have it installed that i went with a local speed shop. I already set up an appoint with LMS for a dyno tune but they have a 3 week waiting list.

The charger is on right now but when you start it up it sounds really bad and drops idle. We sent the chip back to ATI and they are going to make good on another one.

This will have to do until i can get to a better facility. When the mail order chip comes back we will put that in and start it up if everything seems ok i will drive it home until my appointment with Livernois Motorsport.

I know i just should of waited but no one likes to spend 4,000 bucks on something that you just see laying on the floor. :bang:

What size MAF do you have? The factory one is good up to 400 HP.

Big exhaust always makes a car run rich, and the ATI supplied chip is probably calibrated for stock exhaust.

The noise you describe at idle is normal. ATI blowers sound like broken idler pulleys.

I am really getting screwed on this install. Now ATI has sent back another chip and i am still having the same problem. ATI insists that this charger will work with the factory MAF and the 42lb injectors.

Now i talked to someone at Livernois Motorsport and they said that they wont even touch the car until i get a certain MAF and some kind of Cosingworth fuel pump.

Come on guys help me out here. I am paying 1,000 for a install and these guys cant get my car to run. Not counting the dyno and tune. :bang:

The chip they send you is way rich and you will be lucky just to get to a tuner. Mine was so rich it fouled the plugs out. I talked to a tuner near me, I thought I was going have to have my car towed to him, he told me to take out the chip and drive it to him with no chip installed in cpu. so I disconnected the batterry for about 15 mins and pulled the chip out and this thing ran very strong. it was hard not to run it hard like this, but without a chip if you run it real hard it will lean out and could cause problems. So I would try that I drove mine around for 2 weeks and 1hr to the tuner like this. Good luck, once you get it tuned right you will love it.

I forgot to mention you should invest in a 03 cobra drop-in fuel pump. And also maybe a MAF Meter if they cant get your stock MAF tuned with it properly. Pro-M 3" univerisal blowthrough is the best IMHO. Good Luck

Wish I could help you :( I am here in Michigan as well and I am having a hard time finding a place to install a supercharger. Every place I talk to has been rude enough for me not to do my business there, including Livernois. I had one of their techs tell me they couldnt tune a supercharger unless it ran on 94 octane :bs:

Anyways, hope things work out for you.

First, it's better to be rich than lean.

Second,to address your problem you really should have a custom chip burned specifically for your car's setup by a compitent company. Their are many out there in MI. The stock MAF will work, but it'll be a restriction.

It sounds like the values from the MAF is not being converted properly in the "chip" or computer to tell the 42 lb injectors the correct ammount fuel to inject. So the injectors are being told to stay open too long because the computer thinks it has smaller injectors, which is making a rich condition.

This may sound like a dumb question, but does Procharger know you have 42 lb injectors in the car?

get the lightning mass air , its already calibrated for the 42s , then you should be able to drive the car without a chip , but dont rev it over 2500 rpms , get it home and call tim at T&Js for advice , probably be best to send him your list of mods and ECM for a reflash , www.modularfordpowerhouse.com , Ed Clark over at modulardepot.com has a good rep for tuning also .

No thats not a dumb question because i was actually thinking the same thing. But i was also thinking about something that Rick 91 GT said about cleaning the contacts on the chip. I remember when i installed a Hypertech chip and had a lot of problems because i didnt clean off the contacts very good. I am going to check with my installers now.

I dont have a problem with getting a custom chip burned to my mods but right now the guys that installed the S/C is just trying to get it to run so they can get there other customers in.

I have heard a lot about you and have visited your site. I was very impressed with the kids car and seen the dyno video. So as soon as i can get the car home(without towing it) i will be getting in touch with you for a custom chip and the other mods i will need to get my car running like it should be.

I am coming to Atlanta in Augusts maybe i can get it down there.

I hope i am talking to the right guy.

the installers removed the 42lb injectors and put the 19,s back in and the car ran fine. They are sending the chip back again hopefully this will be the last time. It just doesnt sound like its the chip to me it seems like its the stock MAF. The chip will be back tomorrow i will keep you updated.

Well my car is finally ready to go, no thanks to ATI. We ended up having to order a tuner chip from Diablo Sports. Put in and everything is fine. I will post my dyno results tomorrow.

Thanks guys for all of your help. :flag:
