I need to make a temporary tie rod so I can roll the car on a trailer, and into the welder's shop. I can't bolt the steering linkage up, because the frame rail is being replaced where the idler arm bolts up.

Anyways, can someone measure across the car from the tie rod hole in one spindle to the tie rod end hole in the other? That way I can make a temporary steel tie rod to keep the wheels close to straight. Thanks.

If this is in order to hold your alignment, it's not worth the effort. If not, then ignore this post.

Otherwise, when you get it back, run a string across the back wheels and guess it from there. Make sure the gear is centered and eyeball it. With a little practice you can get it pretty close, then off to the alignment shop. Or you could buy one of those toe adjusting tools. Eastwood has one that looks pretty sweet for around 40 bucks.
