Help needed ASAP

Hey guys, I have an 88 LX 5.0 and the heater core is leaking bad. I need to bypass it to get me mobile as I am stranded. How do I bypass it for a temp fix untill I get to replace it.

you see the two heater lines going to the firewall? connect those 2 lines. Or run a short chunk of heater hose from where those 2 lines come off the water pump and intake.

take off your upper hose going into the heater core and loop it on to the bottom coolant rail under the intake. this will work for a little while. good luck

The hose sizes are different between the feed hose and return hose. One hose is 5/8" diameter and the other is 3/4" diameter. The easy fix is Home Depot or Lowes will have a black plastic hose barb coupler that is 5/8" diameter on one end and 3/4" diameter on the other. Use this hose coupler to join the two hoses.

I bypassed the heater core on a friend's LX. I was able to force the 5/8" i.d. hose over the larger tube. The hose was pretty warm at the time and that helped it give a bit.

You could probably use a hose clamp to keep the larger hose tight on the smaller tube, but that would be a very temporary fix.

Jrichker's plan is the best, long-term solution.

but if you are stranded, loop the upper to the lower. i did it and drove it like that for 6 months. it works just fine.

you will be fine just no heat.

yes, its safe to run like that.as long as the hoses are connected properly to prevent hoses from blowing apart and loosing coolant.
