I have a 2007 Mustang V6, manual transmission, 54k miles on it.
Now it's hard to shift to 1st gear, and I feel it is not smooth to shift to the other gears.
I took it to the Ford dealer, spent $110 just to know there might be, not not limited to, three reasons:
1. Pilot bearing, covered by warranty.
2. Clutch disc.
3. pressure plate.

They will have to tear down the transmission to identify what the problem is. But I would like to know, anybody has this problem before? What might be the most possible problem? So I can save some money if I switch to some other local car repair store. Thx!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got any clutch/brake fluid leaks?

Unfortunately, you will have to drop the transmission in any case. And if you do drop the transmission, just replace the clutch, pilot bearing, and slave cylinder/throw-out bearing to eliminate any future failures. You don't want to pay again to drop the transmission because you were too cheap to do the job right.

Its odd though at 54K that your clutch would be worn out; although it all depends how it was driven.

Sorry, but there are not other alternatives...

Hello eeplayer,

Since there is a possibility of warranty coverage, I recommend having your service completed at the Ford dealership. If you choose to have the work done at a local shop, it won't be eligible for reimbursement. As an added bonus, your Ford dealer will use Ford Genuine Parts and Motorcraft parts, as they are manufactured to strict specifications. They have undergone extensive laboratory and on-the-road testing, and are built to maximize the performance of your vehicle.

the clutch/brake master cylinder combo could need bled. or it as well could be internal. I had the trans swapped in mine twice due to second gear synchros coming apart. alot of it i feel is the c/b master cylinder t.o.b. deal and the remote mount shifter which i absolutely HATE!
