Help needed

i recently got done instlaling my new engine and took her for a test drive. i went to stop, and the pedal goes almost to the floor. i've been told that this is a vacuum problem because of the bigger then stock cam. whats the fix?

Ya for sure your cams cant be that big. I would think a leak, or something along that line.

Leak? Air in the lines?

Does the pedal pressure come up if you pump the pedal?

how many lines are there? the fluid level is good. should i try pumping the brakes for a lil bit to get everything back in sync?

I had the same problem. I bled the brakes and it helped. Amazing how corroded the fluid gets in 5 yrs.!

I had a similar problem only to find out that the adjustment cable had slipped off one of the rear drum brakes

I would try bleeding those brakes first, that should help. Then check to make sure the pushrod is hooked properly to the pedal, and not just dangling in place from the boot.

i should add, that if the front wheels are jacke din the air, they are totally free flowing. no friction from the brakes.

thats not a bad thing if you drag racing........ , but i would bleed the system and adjust the brakes all around

Sounds like a bad master cylinder.. 'specially if they're full of fluid and you havent touched anything else.. check the wheel cylinders too, just in case..

The lack of vacum would make it harder to stop because you wouldnt have the power assist...

I agree with bleeding the brakes. You can't go wrong there. But you just swapped engines, and they worked before? It sounds like a vacuum leak.

we got around to adjusting the brakes, and found that the driver rear had brake fluid leaking out of it. so im guessing a new wheel cylinder will be the fix.

Bleeding the brakes at the wheels wont help if there is air in the MC, try a bench bleed of it too while you are at it.
