HELP! Oil filter housing leak

When I start my car oil pours out of a small hole in the filter housing. Its really bad, I put 2 quarts in drove around the block and its dry again. Has anyone had this probelm before?

it sprays out from between your oil fiter and the housing? check to make sure that there's not the old gasket stuck on the housing.

Doubled up gaskets or hole in body of filter. Either way you need to take the filter off.

i agree with both post its a not unheard of to double gasket the oil filter

getting tobe a common problem. could be the filter to block gasket, or the filter housing or the ehgine oil cooler (if equiped) over a period of time electrloysis cause the 2 metals to corrode, esp if one does not change there coolant often enough. on cars that are equiped wth the engine oil cooler there is a small "bleed" hole in the housing which is suppose to leak when trouble arises.

I put some JB Weld on the hole to drive temporarily, do you think that would be safe? Do I need to buy a whole new oil filter housing or is there a cheaper way to fix it?

plugging that "bleed" hole(if thats where the leak is comming from) might NOT be a good idea and cause more problems. there will be NO cheap way to fix this, if it is the oil filter housing, thats @$160.00 and if it the oil cooler, @$200.00

If it's near the filter, it could be as most people have mentioned with the gaskets. I have actually seen a filter that was brand new with NO gasket.

Check for these easy fixes first.. If it's not one of those swapping the filter adapter/oil cooler is easy to do.

Its squirting from the hole on the far end away from the filter. I put Jb Weld on the hole to plug it and I took a drive and theres a rotten egg smell coming from the exhaust now.

thats for a non-oil cooler equipt car, does your's look like that or is there a @3" metal spacer(oil cooler) in between your housing and the filter?

It has the spacing between the filter. Thats the part with the weep hole that is squirting the oil out when i start the car.

well thats the engine oil cooler and its prob rotted-out. now there are 2 O-rings between the oil cooler and the housing on the block, you could try and replace them first and see if that helps.
if not you'll still have 2 options. keep the oil cooler set-up(buy another one) or get the non oil cooler adapter on the block and just delete it.

What cracked? the oil filter housing? because the bottom of my car is covered in oil and I have never been able to find the damn leak. but its always around the filter. Covers the steering rack in oil.

Got it back today. Turned out the the shaft was lose and needed to be tightened down. Chalk it up as a lesson learned, cost me $163. Well, at least I got the o-rings replaced and my coolant and oil changed with it.
