New poster here with a couple of questions.

In a parking lot today, I pulled up on the emergency brake handle and it came up really fast with no resistance. It looks like the cable that goes to the handle snapped. There is a little piece still attached to the handle mechanism and its frayed on the end. So, now I can't engage my parking brake.

I don't know much about brake systems so is this a major problem? Is it something that I can hold off fixing for awhile. Also, I have an assigned parking space at work and its on an incline. Could my car possibly roll back if I can't engage my parking brake? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

By the way, this is a 96 Cobra with a standard transmission.

Use 1st gear as a parking brake...just don't forget.

The cable is no big deal to find and have replaced.

Dude, if you have to park your car on an incline as you said then get that thing fixed asap. Just having it in gear will keep it from rolling quickly but over the course of a day it will slowly turn the motor and roll downhill. If you can't get it fixed right away then at least go to Home Depot or something and buy some blocks for the tires.

Yeah, there was a recall a few years back and at that time I took the car in and had it done. I've swapped parking spaces with another guy at work so I'm not parked on an incline.

So, how hard is it to replace the cable?

That is correct. I had the recall done to my old 96' Cobra. Should fix your problem.
