Help Picking out new cam....

I am currently in the process of rebuilding my shortblock. It will stay at the stock displacement and will have the stock TRW foreged pistons. My Edelbrock 6089 performer RPM heads will geta little porting/polishing and shaved 30 thousanths. Running 1.6 rockers and an E303 cam. Looking to get the most horsepower available by swapping the cam/springs using stock pistons. What have you guys found to be the best cam for a stock 302ci motor? Oh and I am running 24lb injectors/ 73maf / BBK SSI intake/ 70mm TB... Also, if you have dyno numbers to back it up that would be nice! Looking to get 320-350 at the wheels if possible...

Yeah i heard them and Anderson Motorsports do a really good job on custom grinds, but I'm not looking to spend that much on this motor... really looking for a good off the shelf cam... thanks though!

OK. You asked for most power. For cheaper off the shelf maybe a TFS stage 1 or something similar. But remember you get what you pay for.

Being conservative on items like the cam will be the reason the engine fails to reach its max potential. I run an XE series cam and the return was excellent, but like a custom the price was substantial compared to Alphabet and TFS cams.

I like my TFS1, but as mentiond before for max power a custom cam is the way to go, even one of the compcams i think would be better than what i have or any of the normal fms cams

The cam is what pulls the entire combination together. Without the correctly matched cam, you can take 20 to 25% of all the money you've spent so far on parts and chuck it out the window. The days of sitting around the poker table and deciding what the best cam is, are gone. Consideration for your entire build needs to be taken into account in order to maximize power.

When you look at it like that... $300 is chump change.

price wise maybe...BEST ots cam...I really have to disagree. My small valve eddy heads and unported typhoon were well complimented by my XE270 cam supporting numbers I would put up against any custom cam, low compression 302/306 in N/A form.

best price maybe, best OTS, not even close, just a decent cheap grind

I don't think that there is such a thing as "best off the shelf cam". That would be like telling a woman that the best purse on the planet is from Liz Claborne. Of course, her reply will be that the best purse is totally dependant upon what it is that this purse is supposed to along with.

The same is true with a cam. There is no one cam that is best for every combination. If you select an off the shelf cam then build around that cam then it's likely that they will be a good match. It is however, much easier and usually less expensive to build your combo then have the cam cut/selected to match that combination.

The point is that, shouting out name brands and model numbers for a bunch of cams is pointless without specific regard to the whole engine assembly.

You could contact Jay Allen at www.camshaftinnovations.com. He can spec out a cam for your combo as well as EDC and some of the others. I'm happy with my CI cam.

give comp cams a call give lunati cams a call. talk to the tech guys give em a run down of your combo. they will steer you in the right direction.
