I want to stay with a standard shift tranny. This car, 90 mustang GT is putting down 450hp all motor. I am running 4.10 M/T street slicks at 15psi. I am now on my 4th T-5 and am ready to put a tranny in it again. I will need a good clutch recommendation as well.
Now for the experts opinion. What tranny do I need?
What clutch do I need?
If you happen to have what I need, pm me!!!!!
Kinda getting too good at changing trannies so your help is greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks in advance folks!!!!!

I second the TKO 500/600 choice. The main difference is the tko500 has a 10 spline input and the gear ratio is very close to the T5. The tko600 has a 26 spline input and the gearing is spaced out so first and second aren't so short. You will need some rear gears to get the acceleration that you would have had with T5 but 3rd is not a dog though.

Have anyone here ever heard of a engine shop in Michigan I believe that goes by the name of Booth Arrons? /that is who built this motor. I have the build sheet on it somewhere. Not sure if it is a stock block or not but when this car is right she is wicked scarey fast!!! Right now, I can not get the car into gear with the motor running, it does not like to shift once it is rolling which leads me to belive the tranny syncros are gone too. It is a real tire lifter when things are right.

The TKO 500 is rated to 500 ft/lbs of torque. See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/TKO.asp for more information,

I have a T5z (alloy gear set) in my 93 Cobra, rated at 330HP. If you are running the motor the way you explained, on a stock block, you could go with the T-5 with an alloy gear set. Halon motorsports sells the kits for whatever you need.

Clutch: I run a Spec stage three single plate and my 240-250 or so hp Cobra has zero problems. You will probably never a slipping clutch on a cheaper single disk (for streetability) around 300 hp. Higher than 300 HP, there are a plethera of clutch/tranny options depending on how many dollars are in your pocket.

Cheers,

Chris

I have a feeling that if I go with another t-5 I will be back in the same boat that I am trying to get out of now. Any other suggestions????
