help please

ok i picked up a 87 gt 5 speed and today i took it out and noticed that when im driving a steady speed and am completely off the gas when i bump the gas a lil theres like a slight clunk towords the rear please dont tell me this is bad all my other stangs have been aods so is this normal on the 5 speeds?

Could be U joints or excessive slack in the ring & pinion. I would suspect U joints first. Changing them isn't hard or expensive - about $17 for two U joints.

It will take longer to jack up the car and get the driveshaft out than it will to change the U joints.

Once you have the car up on jackstands, you will be able to twist the driveshaft and watch and feel for play in the U joints.

Could be a U-Joint. Does it do it in any gear, or all gears and all speeds ?

all gears and all speeds,anytime i am completely off the gas and then apply gas again i hope its just the u joints,if the rain ever lets up ill check that.thanks for the quick response fellas its much appreciated.

everyone else beat me to it. Sounds like bad U-joints to me also. Very easy fix.

thanks again for the help guys you were dead on,replaced em today in the snow then went sliding around the icy streets,gotta love mustangs on snowy roads!
