I put in a MAC cold air in my 02 v6 but theres a gasket missing when connecting the pipes...will this result in loss of power ? and if so can I just put some sealent instead of a gasket

If you are talking about the gasket between the MAF and the pipe that leads into the fender, I wouldn't think it would loose power, it'll just have a sound of sucking air not from the filter. Some type of sealent would stop that, and if you just want to go on the safe side, you could put some in there.

Any air leak could possibly make you loose power it very well might go un-noticed but I would do what ever you have to do to cover up all the leaks.

Like the Dyson commercials say, loss of suction is loss of cleaning power, in your case intake power. Noticeable, possibly, probably more of an annoying whistle like TMX said.

it does whistle around 3000 rpms...and theres also a opening on the underside of the intake like if some kind of tube goes in there or sensor but i dont have ne loose connection so i had to get a lil rubber and wedge it in there since it would have been open...so can i put like gasket sealer ? does it matter if its high temp ? like the one i used for my shifter

ya your going to want to cover that hole up. It isn't going to make a differnce with the gasket sealer it isn't in the engine so there is no need for hi-temp.

Yeah, it's not going to get hot really, I can drive for an hour, make a pass on the track and touch the intake cause it isn't hot. On the Mac CAI, there would have been 2 holes on the tube before the throttle body. One is for the IAT sensor which is on the 99-00 and some 01's, but mid-01 to 04, that sensor is included somewhere else, so on those cars the hole has to be plugged up. The other hole is for the PCV system, it's a tube that goes from the intake to the passenger cylinder head and flows clean air through the crankcase. That system is on all cars so make sure that is plugged in.

Yeah there is only one hole that may be since I have a 2002 instead of a 99-01 but i did put a rubber cork in there so its pretty sealed up...for the gasket i no i dont need a high temp seal...I just happen to have one left over from my short throw shifter install and wanted to no if that would be ok to use anyways instead of buying another sealent

i had the same question less than a month ago. i had the whole open too but for quite some while. i went to autozone and bought a rubber thing. i do not know the name of it but i believe is was next to the rubber grommets. it looked like a really big valve cap like on the tires (covering where the air goes in and out) but is made of rubber not plastic. i believe i got a quarter of in inch or a quarter of some measurement i do not recall. anyway i put it in mayeb 2 or 3 weeks ago and no problems yet. also no noticable if any power gain. i just covered it up because unfiltered air was going in and who knows what else
