Help removing broken bolt please!!!

OK, upper intake bolt, one of the long ones has snapped off and is sticking out of the lower about 3/8". Not enough to get two bolts on to try to back it out that way. It's in there pretty tight, I clamped a small pair of vise grips on it but the little bit of force they will grab with is not enough to move it.

So the question is, Does anyone have a trick they'd like to share?

It's a stock intake, and yes I know it would be a great excuse to find an explorer intake, but not yet.......

I can get a larger/stronger vise grip to try, but I don't want to chew it up so bad it takes away other options. Is the bolt hardened? Can it be easily drilled out and retapped?

There is a used lower on craigslist for $15.00. Is that a better Idea? I could easily spend more buying things to get the stupid bolt out! I probably have a bit around here to drill it out with but would have to get the right tap.

Thanks for any suggestions you all might be able to offer

Stick a Nut on it and break out your Mig Welder and Weld it onto the broken bolt, You will be able to put a socket on it and the heat generated will also help loosen it.

That would be a great Idea! if I had a mig welder....

I was planning on picking up a larger vise grip today sometime.....It also occurred to me I might be able to use my Dremel and cut a groove in the top of it and try to get it out with a large screwdriver.

Man this crap makes me mad:nonono:

Do you have any oxy/acetelyne torch? Or even a cheap propane torch?

Heat up the bolt, NOT the intake and then quench it with water. The bolt and intake have different rates of thermal expansion and contraction and this will likely break it free.

Be extremely careful with the OA torch around the aluminum.

Good luck...
