Well, it had to come sometime, i had my first problem :( . I drove to a friend's house and parked my car (all fine). As i was leaving i pulled out and stretched 1st gear a little bit and went to shift into second...and it grinded a little bit. Its done this before so i didnt pay attention. I understand that grinding 2nd gear is a common problem with these transmitions. well, i stopped at a STOP sign, put it in first, pulled away normaly, went to put it in second and the stick felt realy soft (like it wasnt connected to anything) and when i let the clutch out, it was still in 1st. I soon found out that it was stuck in first, i dont even have reverse. However, in first it drives fine.....so i dont think its the gear box...could it just be the linkage?
BTW...the first thing i thought was clutch, but the clutch acts normaly and grips and releases....i just cant get it out of 1st. The car is at the shop now...its sunday night so i wont actualy know anything until tomorrow morning. BTW, as long as my trannie is being worked on, has anyone fixed the second gear grind? is there a way to fix that or will i just have to live with it?

Linkage? What kind of trannie is this? Sounds as if you bent a shift fork. Is that what you mean by 'linkage'? There isn't external linkage on your transmission like in the older transmissions.

Thats the only thing i could think of...its a t45 trannie. personaly i dont have too much experience with it. The only time ive ever seen anything like what happenned on my car, it was a broken external linkage, but if you say it doesnt have one...then im stump  ed

Your 1996 is under warranty? Wow, that's cool!!! Let me know how it turns out - I'm interested to see what they say since you have a Tri-Ax.

Well i bought the car 4 months ago (as you can see in the sig) from a used car dealer. I got an independent 3 year warrenty with it. The work is being done by a local transmition shop that i trust and have worked with before. Im sure he will overlook the triax. i havent heard from him today, hes getting back to me tomorrow morning. Im hopeing he can find a fatal "flaw" in the trannie and just get a new one.
BTW, i know the 1-2 grind is a very common thing on newer trannies, but mine had it too...you think that could have lead up to the problem?

Wait a second.....T45's don't have the cold 1-2 grind like the 3650's, do they?
i didnt think so...but i had it every once in a while on a cold engine usualy above 4000rpm....guess now i know why. That was it getting ready to let go. The funny thing is, i wasnt even pushing it, i shifted from 1st to 2nd at about 3500rpm....it was the most random thing

yep you guys were right...i blew a shift fork. My mechanic is going to check over the whole tranny tomorrow and make sure it didnt take anything out with it and its should be back on the road by this weekend. As for the warrenty, its a coverred part, the exact words are "Transmition: All external and internal parts with the exp. of fluid, clutch disk and flywheel" but i know they will try to give me some :bs: on why they shouldnt pay for it...but they will, ill make them. lol
