'08 GT-5spd...just hit 1K miles. FRPP lowering springs and 3.73 gears installed and just recently re-installed with a new set from the shop since i had some 5th gear whine.

Well the gear whine is gone but I still have this annoyings sounds coming from what seems like over the rear wheels or around there. It happens once I get noticeably rolling......20mph+....not really a whine or a sound that goes up/down. Just a constant "air being sprayed out of a bottle" kind of sound. It's like a constant machine like hummmm....sort of high pitched. Doesn't matter what gear and it doesn't go up/down with acceleration......seems like it's related to just the wheels spinning.

But this cannot be normal. I just took a drive on a back road for 15 miles going about 55 in 4th most of the ride and it really annoyed the crap out of me. Even the exhaust can't drown it out.

Could the springs be causing it? Not much of a drop (1.5") and the rear seems to have plenty of clearance.

Any ideas? I guess I could take it back to the speed shop that did the work but I'm sure they're getting sick of me since I gave it back to them once already. But somehow I think this is all still related to my damn 3.73 gear install.
But this cannot be normal...IMO.

I developed this same sound after getting 3.73 gears installed. They botched the install too and I had to get them re-done. The whine was gone, but I was left with this wooshing air / hissing / white noise sound. It sounds like exactly what you have, except maybe not as loud.

I took it to a number of shops, and none of them heard any unusual sounds. So I have been driving the car like this for 1.5 years. It isn't really that loud, especially over my exhaust, so it hasn't been a huge problem, but I think it may be getting ever so slightly louder (although that could be in my head). I am thinking I am going to take it back in to see if they can hear the sound now. If you find anything out, I would really appreciate it if you would PM me and let me know. I will do the same. I haven't run in to many people with this problem, and no one on the forums ever really knows what it is.

By the way, I have no suspensions mods, so I doubt it is your springs. It definitely has something to do with the rear end change. I did not have this sound before the 3.73 gears and I too just can't believe it is normal (although I have had no problems after 25,000 or so miles of driving).

yeah sounds like the same issue as mine. not crazy loud but it is annoying somewhat to me. I found another thread on either this site or allfordmustangs from a guy who suggested the below in quotes. I dropped it at a dealer today and the shop foreman was aware of this fix. They're ordering the parts so I should have the car back in a couple of days. So hopefully this will help. I'll let you know.

"The Ford TSB # for the axle whine is 08-21-6 . It involves putting a approx 2 lb steel weight on each brake backing plate area. The holes are already there. It acts as a dampener and did work on my car. I would give your dealer a call if you have the gear whine."
