HELP!!! took down a pole lookin to rebuild

ok so, i was ran off the road doing 85 on the highway by a motorcycle. And i took down a light pole. Everyone says to just junk the car but i love it more then anything in the world it was my first 5speed. theres right rear quarter panel damage right by the fuel pump the tail light was ripped off, exhuast pipe broke, right passanger door wont open, both sid view mirrors ripped off, the windshield popped out didnt shatter and is still somewhat attached to the car, 3 rims and tires that are shot, but the major problem if those werent bad enough is the car wont start but im pretty sure thats because the fuel line broke and i cant get the car into 5th or reverse 1st-4th arent a problem. i would like to rebuild the car myself, theres a brand new engine that i dont wanna waste also everything under the hood. if anyone can give me some tips on what i should do n how much parts would be itd be greatly appreicieated

About the no start... Did you check the inertia switch in the trunk under the carpetting? I believe it's on the driver's side. That's a fuel pump cut-off that our cars have in them incase of an accident. I hydroplaned into a curb, snapping an axle shaft, and yanking an entire wheel/brake rotor off the rear driver's side, and that set off the inertia switch.

Is there any frame damage to the vehicle? That's what would be the deciding factor for me. If the car REALLY means that much to you, and there's no frame damage, I see no reason to go ahead and rebuild it..

1. Dont do 85 again...
2. its probably cheaper to buy a new one...
3. if your capable buy a gt with a blown engine and swap yours in.

+2

Definitely do not do 85 again. You can find a decent gt for $2000 and up. I would keep the car you have now and get a new one. Like Adam said, blown engine and swap. Then you also have a donor car available to you if you need parts. Seems like you destroyed that stang. My bets are there are some frame damage if you hit it that hard. Some pics would be awesome too.

You'll probably pay about 3X the cost of a new Stang to fix your current one. And unless you find a repair shop that will do an excellent job, the car will likely never run quite right again. The question for you is, is your sentimentality towards your GT worth all the cost and headache?

I can't say too much on this 'cause rather than buy a Cobra, I swapped a Cobra drivetrain into my old V6 (see my sig). My grandfather bought me that V6, and he passed away in '99, so I have the same attitude as you - as long as the frame is not bent, I will repair that car.

i'd get a v-6 as a shell, swap all the good stuff, upgrade the casualties.

getting run off the road by a motorcycle? not trying to knock you, but how does that work? I ride a bike and most things on the road try to run me off the road....

good luck, sorry 'bout your accident
