ok guys heres the thing. this situation sucks.

last week i gave my car in to ford for sum minor things because i was right under 36k.

its now a couple days over (PAST 36k) and i was dirving and i cant shift into 3rd at higher speeds. i get the grind and almost havta force it in there. this really pisses me off as my warranty JUST ran out. seems to be my type of luck recently.

is there any way i can have the dealer fix it without a charge...i just cant beleive i experienced this problem right after my warranty went out

or does this mean that my clutch is going out, and all i have to do is replace it?

You know, do you have an 01-02 car? I think? Some guys have had problems with the trannies in their cars. Balky shifts from 1st to 2nd and so-on. Ford cjanged the tranny slightly in the 02 Mustang. THey know all about the infrequent shifting problems. not the shifter, it's fine. luckily you brought it in for this problem before the warranty ended. if so then take it back, demand that a service manager or tranny tech ride with you and pray to God you can make it shift with the problem you are having while they are in the car. If you have to really FORCE that thing into 3rd, then you will be able to prove the problem.
If the service dept at your Ford dealer is on it, they would have called their special Ford tech line phone number for advise on the problem while your car was there and documented it. It should say something on your repair order ticket. I think you get the pink when you drop the car off, and a yellow one when you pick it up. LIke I said Ford knows all about some specific tranny shifting problems with syncro's and if you raise enough hell even though your warr. expired you can get them to fix it.

Or, if you have Trump money go get a real tremec tranny, or a six speed they pu in the 03-04 Cobra's and tell all your freinds "It's a six speed" !!!

Good luck.

If you have no evidence of the problem before the warranty ran out and it , wait,
it,ran out not long ago? How many miles on your car past 36K?
If you can find a cool dealer that's not very busy, and you are very close to the expired mileage then maybe you can plead your case. LIke I said, they know all about the problem's they have been having.
I take back giving them hell if you did not bring it in for this problem before it expired. Being a real nice guy at this point may help if they are not swampped at the dealer. Take it by on a thur or Fri.
MAybe have you girlfriend bring it in with a short skirt and say a prayer. Sometimes it works.

good luck
