I'm tempted to say its too clean and new looking to actually have been from the Mustang.
It does kind of look like the speedo cable clip, but that has a hole in it for the hold down bolt, doesn't it? I don't recall exactly, because I lost mine and fabricated one out of a washer with a Dremel, haha.
