help-which block to buy?

don't know which block i should buy. here is a list

351 dart block roller

351 man-o-war block roller

351 ford racing block roller

351 stock block roller

i would like to stroke the block to a 408 with a s-trim. basically would like to make 600hp. getting AFR 185's. let me know what you guys think. really steping up this year and want to do things right. would like to no pro's and con's of the blocks above. i know the big one is price, but anything else would help.

one more thing. what stroker kit would be recommended(company)

well if your only goal is 600hp, then just get a stock 351w block and save the cash for other parts

Yep, what he said. If you are going to go nuts in the future, then go with either the dart or the world products blocks. They'll both put down massive numbers without breaking a sweat.

Only cons on the top blocks is that you'll have to do more machining, they cost, and weigh more. Cons on the stock block is that they're supposedly only good up to around 800hp, but some have pushed beyond that with them. Pros on the stock block: cheap, get it used and the machine work is mostly done, can support the power level you mentioned without issue. Go with one of these blocks and a decent rotating assembly, spend the extra money on the go-fast goodies and shoot for higher numbers than you mentioned.

With lots of expierence with the blocks listed, the DART family of products wins hands down.

With a 185 head I personally would recommend you stay small cubes, they are way to small for a blown 408ci motor. Go with a 3.25" stroke motor 331 4.03" bore or big bore 4.125" 347 and you will meet your goal.

Are you assembling yourself or do you need a shortblock or longblock built

thanks for the responses. i think i may go with a stock 351 only cause of the money cost of the other blocks.it's hard to tell the wife why i need a bare block that cost 2000 grand, but that can change too. i will get a shop to do the machining and assemble on the block. hey rick 91gt do you sell 351 shortblocks, and if you do shoot me some prices. it needs to be setup to handle some boost. and as far as the 185's go that's not 100% in stone. i may go with the 205's instead. it still needs to run on pump gas and be street friendly.

The 351W SHP block has not been released/shipped yet as far as I know, the SHP series is the DART block under the Sportsman, they list for around $1900.00
