My car is making a wierd noise/whine/squeek it seems to be coming from the rear, at first i thought that it was the shocks then i replaced them and it was still there then i thought it might the quad shocks so i replaced them also and the whine is still there any thoughts?. what parts (bushings, bearings, any thing that might cause this in the rear end,) might need to be greased/replaced

the car only does it when it it starts from a complete stop and goes away after getting to around 5mph, it doesnt do it all the time but like 85% of the time
please help

(GT,5spd manua,l 142,xxx, miles coupe) if any needs to know
PS i couldnt find a "wierd noise" section in the forums, so i posted it here sorry if its not in the right section

Do you hear anything when you hit bumps?

Factory bushings in the UCA & LCA?

Clutch, is it original?

I know in my car my driveshaft hits the pass side muffler under hard acceleration and bumps. Mainly due to my 4-link bushings being so worn (130k miles). I was able to locate this by loooking at the wear marks on the driveshaft. I rtotated the muffler jsut a touch more out of the way (prev. owener welded them in in the wrong rotation of the connecting pipe) and most of the noise went away.

My clutch / TO bearing also sqeueaks and squals like a beast most fo the time.

You probally need to rebuild your rear end or If you or a previous owner had gears installed in your rear end, they might not have been installed correctly chances are thats your noise though either way. Im have the same noise in my 95 when I start driving from a stop and found out it was the result of poor installation of my gears

so did yours also go away after a 1 or 2 seconds and didnt come back till you completely stoped again

not sure if the clutch is original or not but its still feels good (im going to install a king cobra that i have lying around some where in my garage just incase but i really doubt it sinse ive heard many bad TO berings and felt bad clutches and it doesnt sound like my prob)

if its my wheel bearings what can i do about it?

If its your wheel bearings either grease them if you can or replace them.yea as soon as i get going the noise goes away, the mustang shop were my cars at right now is how i found out what the noise was and they said i need to rebuild the rear end or i could blow it out if im not carefull, guess im not running anyone anytime soon. and unless you do it yourself which i wouldnt recomend the labor charge is a killer

I really doubt your sound has very much to do with suspension components, I have a little squeak in the rear of my car when the suspension flexes to enough of a degree, but I know it must be because I need to pull the upper and lower control arms off and put a tad bit more teflon grease on the urethane bushings where they rotate in the torque boxes. Like others have said, your problem must lie inside the rearend, what is probably happening is once you get to over 5mph like you said, it is going fast enough to smooth out the squeal/noise.
