it has been hot lately around town, but my car used to be operated in extreme heat, like 110+ heat

it has currently been around 100 and in the past i never had any issues with the intercooler getting hot

the last couple of days the intercooler in the afternoon has been at least 150 degrees when it normally runs under 130

yesterday it started at 150 and then made it all the way to 200

the car seems to fall on its face shortly after shifts and is quite sluggish

since i have had the car i have not "serviced" the intercooler; i don't even know if it needs any particular service done to it

what is the deal?
any info or ideas?

James you could have a few issues wrong!! Your Intercooler Hoses might be kinked or even clogged up not allowing the fluid to run through the intercooler! When I first got my 2000, it ran hot on the intercooler gauge and I took my car to Joe at Chicane Sport Tuning and when he pulled the hoses, both of them were clogged up completely!! He put Stainless Steel ones on, that he sells! They work well and look awesome! In reference to my clogged hoses, Joe said it was the worst ones he had ever seen, like a clogged up toilet, it was nasty!! My car had 27,000 miles and had been sitting for a year and a half before I got it!! At that same time I had him put in his Upgraded Intercooler!! Well worth it, to get this item! Now when its 90 degrees out, my car still seems to run strong and the intercooler gauge never seems to get above 130!!! Check into your stuff right away, you don't want to fry your blower or engine!!!

I had the same problem with my '01. In my case, the intercooler pump was the problem as it wasn't working. End result, merely had to replace the fuse for the pump.

I even went to the extent of adding Water Wetter to my intercooler which helped a great deal, but I have heard from folks in the forum that it is not recommended.

Good luck!

So basically i need to check the hoses for kinks, or see about having the hoses cleaned/serviced, and check to see if the pump is working properly?

Where is Chicane located? I am in Sacramento; if Chicane is not close, anyone know of a good place to take my car to? I usually just go to Folsom Lake Ford. They have been great for servicing my Saleen--they used to sell Saleens until Saleen went bankrupt and then they backed out and decided only to sell Roush 'Stangs instead.

BTW - the intercooler only gets hot in the afternoon when it is hot
in the morning it is just fine
if it were a clog, wouldn't it cause the intercooler to be hot all the time?
if it were a fuse for the pump, wouldn't it cause the intercooler to be hot all the time?
why would it only be in the afternoon when the day is hottest?

Thanks for your input.

.... Chicane is in Torrance, CA (South Los Angeles). Kinda a far drive for you from Sac however Apex Motorsport is in San Clarita and they are an SCOA dealer member. Give Mike Mak a call and he can take care of you
