Ok guys, i have finally decided to buy a new clutch. I have been thinking that my clutch was a little to stiff and all that until today when it slipped a little bit in first. I just had my transmission worked on, i had a syncro put in second gear. It doesnt grind no more except when i slowly push the clutch in. I slowly push it in all the way to the floor and go to shift and it grinds. This is around 4500 rpm. If i push it in quick it doesnt grind. I guess this is the clutch. what i was wondering, was what kind of clutch to get. Im money limited and i want a good clutch that shoudnt wear to quick. I want one that isnt too had to push in but a little harder than stock. I was thinking king cobra. Is this good. Another question is how hard is it to install a clutch and clutch cable. Is it a hard job or can any mechanic do it. How much will it cost to have a professional put it in. Thanx

Im a n00b at all this but id rather learn myself than pay up the ass to have someone else do it. I recently replaced my tranny and i can say that its much easier than it looks. Believe it or not, but the hardest part was removing the h-pipe. The bolts were all fubar'd and i needed a friend to help. Once that was out, its just the drive shaft (4 bolts) , tranny cross member (2 bolts, tranny will fall a bit, dont freak out), tranny bolts (4 bolts, support tranny with jack and pry tranny away from belhousing GENTLY), then the belhousing (i beileve 6 bolts). You also have to remove the starter to completely remove the belhousing, one of those bolts were a total PITA because its hard to reach, and it was stripped. Once thats doen the belhousing just comes off. The clutch is right there after that. Remove the lil bolts holding the clutch and she comes off. The Flywheel bolts were the hardest and were the only ones i couldnt not remove myself. I needed air tools, hopefully you have better luck with the flywheel than i did. Remember to have it resurfaced at a maching shop. Cost me 30 bucks to resurface it, it was ready in 45 mins.

It was my first major job and wasnt as hard as i thought. I took me long to fix cause EVERYTHING broke at once. Tranny went south, clutch was slipping, cable broke, etc, lol. So money was an issue for me since it was all at once.

Use lots of WD40. Let bolts soak for 30 mins before you start. Just drentch the fuggers, mine needed to swim for a day. So the night before you do this, just spray them all to hell, and respray them when your apart to start as well.

I think thats about it, good luck!

oh yeah, a friend of mine just had her clutch on her V6 changed by a shop. They charged her almost $300 for labor, pure bs. They have the luxury of a lift, airtools, etc and have the nurve to charge that much! grr.

Seems to me that David put a write-up in the "How To" sticky at the top of this page.
More info on your issue would help - if second gear is the only problem gear, I would not necessarily be lookin at the clutch.

The first thing to do if in doubt is to properly adjust the cable to ensure you are getting full disengagement.

Good luck.

Yeah, good point, pull back on the clutch pedal and see if it clicks. The cable may be loose and that will tighten it up.
