My head unit has eatin my CD's and will not play them, spit them out or load anymore. The CD player is dead. It comes up with CD ERROR across the screen

I'm probably looking at waranty work, but I thought I'd check with you guys to see if you had any ideas for a quick fix.

Thanx in advance

I've seen this problem many times on this board. They've all seem to come to the same conclusion as you. Warranty. Unless you wanna spring for another head unit? :p

If you press eject and the cd door opens and you can see the CD trying to eject, but not actually moving, just use a credit card (place on top or bottom of cd and apply a little pressure). Its happened to me on several ocassions and in desperation I tried this and it worked. However if all your getting is the little message 'cd error' then youll prob have to go the warranty route.

Hope that helps :flag:

Im also having problems with my mach 460. It doesnt want to spit my cds out either without being coaxed with a card of somekind. One of my front speakers is blown as well, Anyone have any good suggestions on some replacement speakers for upfront?

HAHAH....Ford wants 300$ to take my head unit out, send it off for three weeks and fix it! I told him hell no I wasn't paying that kinda money for tha piece. I'm gona go shopping for a new head unit I guess.

Will my speakers work with an aftermarket unit?

They want 300 bucks, go to different DealerShip, is that the place where you bought the car.

My CD player was doing the same thing and the credit card trick worked for awhile but it got old and I talked with a ford dealership and they took care of me. Its good to have friends in the right places.

Only thing is if you have labels on your cd's and one has fallen off inside the Unit, then that could be a problem and they might not do it. Other than that should be covered under warranty and you should not get charged, IMO.

If nothing else go for an Aftermarket unit, thats my plan just buying some time to get the one I want.

Are you sure its Mach 460? I have a 2000 GT with Mach 460. The 94-00 Mach 460's were the same with the seperate head unit/Cd player design.

My CD player wouldnt function any longer so I got a used one on ebay for 30 bucks. All you need to change it is the tools to get it out or you can make your own out of a wire coat hanger.

you know I got the CD error and it wasnt' label on the cds...I bought my car used and it turned out that when you load the cd dont PUSH them in too hard...what happened was the last owner pushed in CD # 6 and broke a spring which caused non of the cds to be able to come out..i just had my stereo guy fix the spring and htat was that

While I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of an aftermarket system, I'm torn by my desire to have you cram the warranty down Ford's throat. The system is faulty, and should be covered. Shenanigans! I call shenanigans!

Speakers? Maybe. Amps, no.

You can most definatley use an aftermarket deck with the Mach 460, Go to best buy and buy the wireing harness for the 460 and the mounting kit, you will have to splice all of the amp turn on wires (Blue) together. You will also have to cut apart a set of RCA's, and connect them to the small harness speaker inputs and then to your new decks rca out's, hopefully your new deck has a built in crossover and sub output. I put a pioneer deck in my 01 GT with mach460 the day after I got the car. I had to have my MP3 player back.

Email me with questions... I can take pics if you need them.
