I bought a 289 and c4 im going to put into a mustang shell eventually after i rebuild. The engine is incomplete. It is missing all accessories(alternator, ac, power steering) valve covers, air intake, carburetor, distributor, headers, and of course and probably my biggest concern, vacuum and coolant hoses and fuel lines(i dont know where they go). In fact i don't know where anything goes. Any pictures of complete engines, diagrams, and explanations would be helpful. thanks

Most likely a 68 cuz thats what they came out of, but it really depends on what i can get a good deal on because i know they will fit in any 60s and some 70s mustangs

A 289 long block will fit in any Mustang from '64 1/2 to '96. Depending on the year and what state you live in (emissions regulations & testing) will determine what equipment you need.

My '66 has just an alternator (no P/S or A/C) and just one vacuum line - to the PCV Valve. Pretty basic. Fuel line runs from the pump to the carb. There are literally hundreds of accessories available and should be matched to the car and how you will be using it. For pix, just Bing "289 Ford" and select "Images".

Well im definately going to want power steering and a/c. The fuel pump is on the engine right? not in the tank. And do you have power brakes?

Hi,
Since you have no idea, start by buying assembly booklets for body, electrical, interior, etc. Check with the usuals for them. As an example...http://npdlink.com/store/catalog/Assembly_Manuals-2975-1.html
Good Luck!

A mechanical fuel pump would go on passenger side of the block. Remember that you are not limited to making it stock appearing if you would like a cleaner look.

Huh? The mechanical fuel pump on all smallblocks was on the left side. Or are you in England?

As for appearance, all of the pulleys and brackets needed to make it look like a stock 65-69 engine are available new.

I have seen this done- For example, a 67 6 cylinder car that was converted to V8 using a Ford Racing engine. It was dressed out as a stock 67 289, except for the chrome air cleaner and Cobra valve covers. Most people would never spot the fact that it was anything other than a stock 289.

Not England. Just a retard moment. Was thinking where on a chevy instead of a ford and got them backwards. Thanks for the catch.
