Help with my stang.. wanting to beat a Nissan 300ZX

I just bought a '96 Mustang GT 4.6L V8, and I am looking for help on what mods to put to increase power so I can beat this '90 Nissan 300ZX.

wow, are those 300zxs really that fast for a 96-98 GT. I thought it would be no problem if your 96 had only gears, and exhaust.

I had know idea that a 1990 300zx would walk me, without a headswap.! yikes!!

Depends if it's the stock twin turbo or just the stock N/A. TT are 300 hp. N/A are a lot less.

Well... the 300Z is supposed to be a dog out of the hole... TT or not. So I imagine if you had gears /w all the usualy bolt-ons or gears and a headswap you should take him pretty easily so long as you don't roast the tires... so maybe some DRs too.

i'm no expert on nissan 300zx, but this one seems to be a twin turbo

I agree the intake plumbing appears to be twin turbo...but I always thought the TT all had rear spoilers ...the one in the picture has no spoiler.

It would say Twin Turbo above the rear taillight if it is.

Twin turbos have two sets of intake piping on each side, this looks like a N/A 300ZX, I raced a TT a couple of months back in my 4r70w I beat him by a nose I was in luck because the guy was spinning all his first gear. My auto had 4.10, Hyperprogrammer III, and Densecharger.

It is NOT Twinturbo. thats N/A 3.0 225hp, about 200ft/lb of torque.
If it is TT, there will be another set of pipe next intake pipe that goes down under front. see the pic here
Still quick little car. usualy high 14's, and 6 sec flat at 0~60.
get PI head, you'll show him V-8 means buisness

They're quick for what they are. Where they really shine is in the top end. The TT 300zx's can be beasts in a 1/4 mile, a road course, or on the highway.

what gears do you have stock? if its the 2.73's, 3.73's or 4.10's would be a huge jump.. practice launching, and get some nittos out back. With that being said you shouldn't do too bad.. A midpipe wouldn't hurt either.. I'm happy with my magnaflow catted X.

My car is all stock. I have no idea what ratio my gears are currently though (any idea how to find out?) Which is better, Flowmasters or Magnaflow? I am considering on getting for better exhaust, the stock exhaust sounds real good so I'm sure moding it will make it sound even more muscle.

my brother used to have that car... he had the 300zx Twin Turbo like a 91 or 92...its a sweet car..light as hell and fast...with the technology they had that car should be running like 14.00 in a 1/4 mile with a good driver maybe a bit more.

watch out for the TT's, one of my stang buddys also has a 300zxtt w/ motor back exhaust, modified wastegates to make 18psi, on slicks it goes 11.8@118
