Help with Shelby ID?

Here is a pic of a car that was found with VIN 7R01C160605.

A couple of strange things about the car. The VIN says 289/2bbl. It is a 'california special' fitted car but a 67. It has the taillights, and trunk area... no quarter panel vents. It has a stuffed 429 at this point.

Just seeing if anyone can help with this... thanks so much

Sounds like a parts collection. You could buy a bag of those nameplates. The California Special was a 1968 model. The base VIN on the 67 Shelby was either a K code or S code, and always a fastback, not a coupe.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking... I knew what the CS was and I never knew about a coupe that was a shelby... I was just seeing if the VIN would showup in a shelby search... I just wanted to be sure it wasnt something 'super special' that appeared in a guys barn in TX 30 years ago and someone 'lost' it... never hurts to check.

The Southfield Michigan adress on the tag is what makes me scratch my head. I thought Shelby moved to Michigan later than '67. Is there an other oddities on the car?? Like something inside?? What does the whole car look like???

I never heard of that red Shelby coupe before. The only Shelby coupe I know if is the Green Hornet and Black Hornet.

Yep, this particular car that started this thread was born in Southern California, just a basic 289 2bbl coupe. Be wary of this, especially the shock towers, and if they were cut to fit that motor.

Lil Red was a 1967 Engineering exercize, and crushed soon after. Anything that looks like it today is a clone / replica. It was a coupe 1967 proposal that never went, and the Cali Spec/High Country cars were the off-shoot of that.
