The SVO has the 373 gears, koni shocks, and disc brakes and i was wondering if this would fit on my 90. The guy is selling it to me for 300 bucks and the millage is under 80K. He said its and 8.8 and should mount up perfectly just got to change the proportion valve and brake lines. Is this true? will i fit perfectly or no?

from what i understand, the SVO rear end was just a 5 lug 8.8 thunderbird turbocoupe rear end. probably the same thing you can buy from any lincoln mark VII LSC. both of those rear ends are fox body rear ends and will bolt into a mustang, but are .75" wider PER SIDE than a standard mustangs rear end. you will have to measure the tire clearance you have on your car now to see if it will fit. if your tires can stand to stick out another 3/4" on each side, go for it. is this rear end 4 or 5 lug? if its 4 lug with 3.73 factory gears, its an 87-88 turbocoupe rear. if its 5 lug, its either an SVO unit, or a mark VII rear with 3.73's installed. automatic turbocoupes typically came with 3.73 gears.

regardless, if you have the clearance to put it in and the rear is in good shape, its worth $300. you cant buy a ring and pinion and have it installed in yours for that cost. tire clearance is the only reason my mustang still wears its drum brakes out back.

by the way, i am not entirely sure if the lincoln rears came with the quad shocks or not. ive had multiple turbocoupes and recall them having them.

You will need to do some modifications on the brakes to get it to work correctly. The master cylinder will need to be replaced, the proportioning valve will need modification and a new proportioning valve installed. See http://www.svo73mm.cjb.net/ before you buy it to see if you are up to doing the brake mods. Not a lot of things to do, but you can't skip any of them and expect the car to stop good.

Ya, I put a rear end out of an 86 SVO in my 91LX. It is an 7.5" rear end with limited slip diff, 3.73's and 5 lug. You can look at the diff cover and tell that it's not an 8.8.
