That is one of the coil packs on your engine. You'd have to change a fair number of things in order to go back to a distributor.

Actually, each coil fires one bank of plugs (one coil for passenger side, one for driver side). I don't know what fires the back 4 plugs...

Sounds to me like he's probably referring to having a bad ignition module...which can just be replaced for 80-90 bux and it's fixed.

There are no "secondary" plugs, they all fire on the compression stroke.

I assume your tach is reading half as high as it should as well (idles at ~450-500rpm)?

You need to check to see which plugs aren't firing...easiest way to do so is when the car is off, unplug the front coil (all the plug wires go to the coils). Unplug it where the wiring harness plugs into the front of the coil, not unplug each plug wire. See if it will still start. Now plug it back in and unplug the wiring harness from the rear coil (it's at the back of the rear coil). See if it starts again. If it starts both times but runs bad, it's the ignition module, if it won't start, it's one of the coils that's bad.

Hmm...only things that control spark timing are the crank trigger and the ecu...

Have you scanned for codes to see what the computer says is wrong?
