I have the same clunking you guys are talking about. It mostly happens to me when I shift from first to second at low rpms like around 2500 or so. It also does it real bad when I am just coasting slowly and taking the shifter and putting it in second and first quickly. I took mine up to the dealersihp and showed them and they said its the transmission. Aparrently our 3650's are pretty noisy, when I get a new shifter im going to put some dynomat around the trans tunnel and see if that helps.

I added poly bushing UCA, LCAs when I did the 4.10, actually the noise got a little worse. I suspect that is from the harder bushings. I plan to put in a Aluminum DS in a few weeks. Sure hope that shuts this thing up. I don't expect perfect quiet, but boy this is a noisy thing for a 2007 car. I stll love it. Just wish it had a Coyote engine. Doesnt it figure-you think it's as good as it can be and then they come out with 412hp. So if I buy a 5.0, will a mod big block come out later pushing over 500hp? Can't keep up.

Yup my 07 clunks when shifting in the lower gears at lower rpms. If I shift above 2500 its smooth.

My 08 Bullitt has a few clunks here and there. But at 62k miles, (on original tires) its otherwise fine, and the smoothest car I have ever owned.

Kinda like it, lets you know its a real Ford Mustang. Tough, with neat, new features, but decended from a 61 Falcon!!!!!

Hey scupking,

If the clunking is concerning, you may want to have the dealer make sure everything is tight so it doesn't cause any issues.

my 07 has always had little clunks right from brand new but since they were always there, I figured they were ok. so far I've got 130000 miles on the car and nothing has gone wrong with the transmission or driveshaft. I kinda like the clunkiness because it feels like you are operating a piece of machinery. I the rough around the edges feel of the car. Not to the extent of anything being wrong with the car but if I wanted something super polished and perfect maybe i'd actually want something like a bmw or mercedes but I don't. A muscle car should be a little rough around the edges.

A 2 piece drive shaft reduces drive line vibration and feedback, which makes the car quieter and smoother.

As you can see many people complain about noise and rattles....If Ford had installed a 1 piece drive shafts the complaints would have gone up even more.

The Mustang is a poor mans sports car.

It is not a Viper, a Vette, a Porsche. a BMW....It is cheap , fast, loud and clunky....always has been and hopefully always will be: otherwise it will cost the same as a Vette, a BMW.....

I currently have a 2008 GT and it was clunky. Installed a Hurst shifter and it was more clunkier. Modified the rear bracket on the shifter and it's less abrasive now. Synthetic oil on the transmission, topped off the rear end. Just turned over 36K miles. If you how to run the clutch on a 4.6 you should be fine.

Aluminum D/S

I got the aluminum driveshaft installed and 90% of the clunk is gone and the car feels more responsive. What didn't help with noise was the headers and O/R h-pipe put in at the same time. The aluminum DS is required for these cars. It should be one of the first things to go. I'm impressed.

I'll always say that my two best bang for the buck mods have been my adjustable shocks/struts and my 1-piece aluminum driveshaft. That clunking always sucked. The driveshaft makes my stang feel more "put together"...more firm or stable or whatever. Plus, a few extra ponies at the wheels, slightly quicker accel, slightly improved mpg. Good times.

There is an increase in vibration at startup/idle, but I really don't notice any other vibrations.
